DCLA is an opportunity for your students to join in the adventure of learning how to live into the mission of God. This is no Sunday school lesson or easy answer journey but rather, getting involved in God's amazing work of redemption, reconciliation and restoration of the world and everything in it. It's a call to BE. LOVE. SERVE. And, oh yeah, repeat again and again and again.
It's a call to a radical lifestyle In Jesus.
Through the Big Room, the LAB, Super Seminars, and the creative, NEW Directional Experiences, your students will understand what it means to BE, LOVE, and SERVE, and the amazing things that happen when they live into the mission of God.
So what does it mean to BE, LOVE, and SERVE?
BE. What does a student's life look like when they live in the fullness of the identity that's offered to them through Jesus? At DCLA, we want students to understand what it means that they were created in the image of God. They will discover why the truest thing about them is what God says. Their identity IS security. It IS confidence. It IS clarity.
LOVE. How is God's extravagant love for us lived out in the life of a teenager? How is the attitude and action of Jesus played out at home, school, work and in the community where students live. At DCLA, students will learn how to live out this life of love demonstrated by Jesus and discover how it can come alive in them and change the nature of their relationships.
SERVE. It's not about me, it's about others. It's not about getting, it's about giving. It's not about being first; it's about being last. What does all that mean anyway? Jesus gave us a new way to live, a life of service that breaks all the rules the world has set up and joining into the mission of God as a way of life that not only changes students, but the world they live in.
The Big Room experience will blow your students away. The Big Room is not a sermon, or a skit, or a video clip, but a sweeping narrative of God's epic story. Your students will participate, interact and engage in this amazing story with speakers, drama, video and worship in ways unlike anything they've experienced before.
LAB is where your students participate in a peer-to-peer learning environment as they explore what it means to live into the mission of God. They will dig deeply into the concepts, implications and applications of BE, LOVE, and SERVE. In a room filled with circles of students, they will hear from adult and student presenters -- but they won't just sit and listen -- they'll join in discussion and interactive experiences as they learn together. This format is learning-centered as opposed to the typical teaching-centered model of conference sessions.
Your students will have a variety of Super Seminars to choose from each afternoon. These seminars will cover a wide range of topics, and each is aimed at meeting your students exactly where they are. The complete list of Super Seminars will be available when the full schedule is complete.
New to DCLA 2009 are the Directional Experiences. These creatively help your students dig deeper into their identity (BE), their attitude (LOVE), and their actions (SERVE). More info will be available on the Directional Experiences soon.
